Veterans Stories Project

Honoring those who served

The Pine River Library is proud to celebrate community members who have served our country with our “Honoring Those Who Served” Veterans’ Stories Project. The Library has been collecting oral histories of local veterans who served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq, as well as peace times. The following individuals were interviewed as a part of the project:

Served in United States Army, active duty during 9/11
James K. Frahm
Born and raised in Bayfield, CO
Served in the United States Navy

Isaiah Blu Harris
Born and raised in Bayfield, CO
Served in the United States Army Reserve in Iraq and Afghanistan

Gerald Horton
Born and raised in Rochelle, Illinois, moved to Bayfield, CO in 2015.
Served in the United States Marines during the Korean War.

John D. Jarratt
Lives in Ignacio, CO
Retired United States Air Force Chief Master Sargent, joined the service in 1958.
James A. Kugler 
Born in Richmond, Missouri, moved to Bayfield, CO in 1990
Served in the United States Army in WWII.
Willis Lovelace
Lives in Bayfield, CO
Served in the United States Navy
Florian Walchak
Lives in Bayfield, CO
Linguist in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
