January 30 @ 11:45 am – 1:45 pm
Pine River Library will begin hosting a new International Affairs facilitated discussion program on Thursday, January 30. The Great Decisions program is hosted in Durango each year and will be expanding to Bayfield for the first year. Discussions will be hosted in Durango every other Tuesday, and Bayfield will host a discussion of the same topic the following Thursday of the same week. All discussions in Bayfield will be facilitated by Robert “Han” Bishop, an active member of the Elders Action Network (www.eldersaction.net), and semi-retired from a career in government service, international corporate management, and entrepreneurial enterprise.
Each year a series of eight timely international affairs discussion topics is suggested by the Foreign Policy Association, which also prepares a briefing book, a teacher’s guide, and a DVD on the topics. The DVD on the current topic will be shown at each discussion. Briefing books will be available for checkout at the library. These books feature impartial, thought-provoking analyses on the chosen issues of concern to U.S. policymakers today. Written by carefully selected experts, the books offers policy options for U.S. officials as well as questions and tools for discussion, with each article around 10 pages.
Great Decisions will meet every other week after that, for a total of eight sessions, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., Thursdays at the Pine River Library.
The events are free and open to the public and everyone is encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy during the program.
